Summary

If you only read the ResearchWikis website, we only collect your usage logs similar to most web sites.

If you contribute to the the ResearchWikis articles, every word you post is now public information. If you write something, you should assume that it will be here forever. This includes everything you write at ResearchWikis.

Your identity is not public if you simply visit ResearchWikis. However, if you edit an article or any page in ResearchWikis, you are now publishing a document. You are identified publicly with that article as this is regarded as a public act.

Identification of an author

You have to be logged in as a user so you can publish an article or edit a page.

You will be identified by your unique user name if you are logged in to ResearchWikis. This can be any name including your real name as long as it is available and appropriate.

If you have not logged in, you will be identified by your network IP address. Your IP address can be traceable to your school, place of business, home or an ISP (Internet Service Provider).

If you are at all concerned about privacy, you are encouraged to log in and publish your work under a pseudonym. It is possible for a very motivated individual to connect your real-life identity with your network IP address.

Your IP address is not available to the public when you use a pseudonym except in cases of abuse such as vandalism of an article by you or someone with the same IP address. Your IP address and its connection to any user names may be released under certain situations.

Additionally, using a user name is a better way to protect your privacy with your employer when using a company mail server.

Cookies

A temporary session cookie is used whenever a user visits ResearchWikis. If you never want to log in, you can deny this cook, but you cannot log in without it. the cookie is deleted when you close your session.

When you log in, more cookies are used so you do not have to type in your user name or password on your next visit. This is good for 30 days.

Passwords

Many of the ResearchWikis projects' community interactions count on the respect and reputation built up over time through contributions. Users need to create strong passwords and never share them. they go a long way to protect your identity within the ResearchWikis experience.

Private logging

When you use the ResearchWikis site, your usage patterns are kept as a log. This is common practice for almost all web sites.

These logs are used to produce analytics that allow the ResearchWikis experience to improve over time. The information is not made public.

ResearchWikis will not sell or share private information, such as email addresses, with third parties, unless you agree to release this information, or it is required by law to release the information.

Security of information

ResearchWikis makes no guarantee against unauthorized access to any information you provide. This information may be available to anyone with access to the servers.

E-mail

You need to provide an email address so you will be able to reset your password if you forget it. However, you may contact ResearchBuy to enter a new mail address in your preferences.

User data

User data is publicly available by looking at "user contributions" lists, and in aggregated forms published by other users. This includes all edits and contributions.

Removal of user accounts

User accounts cannot be removed at ResearchWikis.

Deletion of content

In normal articles, anyone can look at the previous version of an article and see what was there. Removing text from ResearchWikis articles does not permanently delete it.
